Study in China for Indian students
India is one of the biggest source countries for China's English-taught MBBS seats, with NMC recognition as the central question — engineering and business programs are growing second options.

Study paths
For Indian students, China's offer splits into two very different plays.
The first is the English-taught MBBS: a six-year bachelor in clinical medicine taught entirely in English at MOE-approved medical universities. Entry is direct — HSSC/12th standard certificates plus an English test (typically IELTS 6.0–6.5 or an interview). Seats per university are limited and fill months before the September intake, so treat the application window seriously.
The second is the Chinese-taught route via HSK: a preparatory year of intensive Chinese, then a bachelor's or master's degree in Chinese. It is cheaper per year and open at nearly every university in our corpus — and it is the realistic path for fields beyond medicine, including the English-taught engineering and business master's programs we track.
Whichever path you pick, budget from official figures: the tuition ranges on this page come straight from each university's published number, and living costs are covered city by city in our city guides and costs overview.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) · Full coverage
Open to applicants to CSC-designated universities (illustrative DFC list below); each university sets its own quota and program list per year
CSC Type A is applied at the Chinese embassy in your country (country quotas) and Type B directly through the university. Country-specific and globally open awards are both listed — quotas vary by country and year, so confirm in each official notice. See the CSC Type A vs Type B guide and the scholarships hub.
Visa & arrival
Admitted Indian students receive an admission letter and a JW202 form (JW201 for Chinese Government Scholarship holders). Apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese embassy in New Delhi or the consulates serving your region; programs under 180 days use an X2. Within 30 days of arrival the X1 must be converted into a residence permit for study at the local Entry-Exit Administration — your university organizes the paperwork.
Apply for the visa as soon as your JW202 arrives; the pre-September rush is real. Our student visa guide walks through documents, health checks and registration step by step.

Degree recognition — read before you enrol
For medical graduates the decisive body is India's National Medical Commission (NMC). We do not restate NMC's rules for foreign medical graduates on this page — they have changed before and will change again, and paraphrasing them wrong can cost you eligibility. What we can say: the regulator exists, its official bulletins are the only authoritative source, and you should read the latest NMC announcement on foreign medical qualifications before accepting any offer. Verify the university is on China's MOE-approved list for English-taught MBBS, and use the as-of line below to judge how fresh these notes are.

Frequently asked questions
Can Indian students study MBBS in China in English?
Yes — Chinese universities on the Ministry of Education's approved list run English-taught MBBS programs. Check that a specific university is on the current approved list before applying.
What matters most for NMC recognition?
Recognition of your degree and your licence to practise in India are decided by India's National Medical Commission (NMC), whose rules for foreign medical graduates are updated from time to time. Read NMC's latest official announcements — not agent claims — before you enrol.
Is NEET required for Indian students applying to China?
Indian regulations for studying medicine abroad are set by the NMC and have included a qualifying-test requirement in recent years. Confirm the current requirement in NMC's official bulletin; we deliberately do not restate it here.
Do Indian students need HSK for MBBS in China?
Not for admission to English-taught MBBS. Clinical rotations involve Chinese-speaking patients, so universities require Chinese language study along the way — usually reaching HSK 4 by the clinical years.
Besides MBBS, what do Indian students study in China?
Engineering, computer science and business master's programs — mostly English-taught. Browse the full list on our programs page.
