Study in China for Nigerian students
Nigerian students choose China for English-taught bachelor's and master's degrees with no language barrier — and budget discipline matters, since tuition is quoted in each university's official figures.

Study paths
For Nigerian students the default is the English-taught route: no Chinese at admission, no preparatory year, and direct entry with your certificates plus an English test (typically IELTS/TOEFL or an interview). Some universities accept proof of prior English-medium education in place of a test — the exact requirement is listed on each program page, so check before assuming either way. The offer concentrates in business administration, computer science and engineering programs — wider at master's level than at bachelor's level, and the filtered list below shows exactly what we track for both.
One caution shapes Nigerian decisions more than most: apply only through the university's own official portal or the embassy channel, and treat anyone selling "guaranteed admission" or package fees as a red flag. Every figure on this site links back to an official source for exactly this reason.
The Chinese-taught route — preparatory year to HSK 4–5, then a degree in Chinese — is the lower-tuition alternative and opens nearly every university in our corpus. It only pays off if you want Mandarin as an outcome; our two paths guide compares the two honestly.
Budget discipline matters: tuition should be quoted from university pages only (as on this page — never a converted or "package" number), and living costs from our costs overview and city guides. Scholarships: CSC Type A (embassy channel in Abuja) vs Type B (direct university track) is the first fork — the CSC guide explains it, and the scholarships hub lists what else exists.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) · Full coverage
Open to applicants to CSC-designated universities (illustrative DFC list below); each university sets its own quota and program list per year
CSC Type A is applied at the Chinese embassy in your country (country quotas) and Type B directly through the university. Country-specific and globally open awards are both listed — quotas vary by country and year, so confirm in each official notice. See the CSC Type A vs Type B guide and the scholarships hub.
Visa & arrival
Admitted students receive an admission letter and a JW202 form (JW201 for CSC scholars) and apply for an X1 visa — study over 180 days — at the Chinese embassy or consulates serving Nigeria; anything under 180 days takes an X2. After arrival the X1 must become a residence permit within 30 days at the local Entry-Exit Administration, a process your university's international office runs with you.
File early: the pre-September backlog is the year's worst. The student visa guide covers documents, health checks, police registration and permit renewal.

Frequently asked questions
Can Nigerian students study in China in English?
Yes — a meaningful set of bachelor's and master's programs is taught entirely in English, concentrated in business, computer science and engineering. English-taught admission needs no Chinese and usually an IELTS/TOEFL score or interview.
Which scholarship routes are open to Nigerians?
The Chinese Government Scholarship Type A is applied through the Chinese embassy in Nigeria; Type B is applied directly to universities. Provincial and university-funded awards also exist — quotas vary by country and year, so read the official notices.
Do I need HSK?
Not for English-taught programs. If you choose a Chinese-taught degree you need HSK 4–5, usually after a preparatory year of intensive Chinese.
What level should I apply for?
Nigerians enroll at both bachelor's and master's level. Master's seats in English are the wider offer; bachelor's seats are more concentrated in business and computing fields.
How should I budget?
Start from official tuition figures only — the ranges on this page are aggregated from what universities publish. Living costs by city are in our costs overview and city guides.
