Study paths

Pakistani students in China overwhelmingly take the English-taught route, and one program dominates: the six-year English-taught MBBS at MOE-listed medical universities. Admission is direct — no HSK needed at entry, just your intermediate/HSSC certificate and an English test (typically IELTS 6.0–6.5 or equivalent; some universities interview instead). Seats are capped per university, so apply early in the window.

The second path is the Chinese-taught route: one to two years of preparatory Chinese (yuyuban) to reach HSK 4–5, then a Chinese-taught bachelor. It costs less per year and opens every university in our corpus, but it only makes sense if you want Chinese fluency as an outcome. Our two paths guide compares both routes.

For Pakistani students targeting medicine, the featured programs below are filtered to clinical medicine (MBBS) at bachelor level. Budget planning starts with our living costs overview — tuition is quoted in each university's own published figure.

Scholarships for Pakistani students

CSC Type A is applied at the Chinese embassy in your country (country quotas) and Type B directly through the university. Country-specific and globally open awards are both listed — quotas vary by country and year, so confirm in each official notice. See the CSC Type A vs Type B guide and the scholarships hub.

Visa & arrival

Once admitted, your university sends the admission letter and a JW202 form (JW201 if you hold a Chinese Government Scholarship). Self-funded Pakistani students apply for an X1 visa (programs over 180 days) at the Chinese embassy or consulates in Pakistan; short-course students use an X2. After arrival you must convert the X1 into a residence permit within 30 days — your university's international office walks you through it.

Start the visa application as soon as the JW202 arrives, and keep originals (admission letter, JW form, health check) in your hand luggage. Our student visa guide covers the full step-by-step process.

Degree recognition — read before you enrol

If you plan to practise medicine after graduating, the deciding authority is Pakistan's national medical regulator — the body once known as PMDC, which has been reorganized in recent years and now operates under a new name. We deliberately do not restate its licensing rules here: they change, and a wrong summary can cost you a career. Check the regulator's latest official announcements (and its requirements for foreign medical graduates) before you accept any offer, and confirm the university is on the MOE-approved list for English-taught MBBS. This page's as-of line below tells you when we last reviewed these notes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MBBS in China taught in English for Pakistani students?

Yes — the programs listed on this page are English-taught bachelor programs in clinical medicine (MBBS) at Ministry of Education-listed universities. Confirm the current MOE list of English-taught MBBS programs before you apply.

Which CSC scholarship route should a Pakistani student use?

Both routes are open. Type A is applied through the Chinese embassy in Pakistan and Type B directly through the university you are applying to. You can apply under one route per year — see our CSC Type A vs Type B guide.

Do I need HSK to study MBBS in China?

Not for English-taught MBBS admission. You will need Chinese for clinical years with patients, and most universities require HSK by the time ward rotations start — check each university's policy.

Will my Chinese MBBS degree be recognized in Pakistan?

That is decided by Pakistan's national medical regulator, not by the university or by us. Check the regulator's latest announcements before enrolling — see the degree recognition section on this page.

How much does MBBS in China cost per year?

Published tuition for the MBBS programs we track is shown on this page exactly as each university publishes it. Living costs are covered in our city guides and costs page.
